Meet the Team

Thunder is a queer, neurodiverse program strategist, outdoor educator, and relationship-builder who loves helping people reconnect with nature by meeting them where they’re at. With more than 15 years of experience creating youth, community, and nature-based learning programs across Turtle Island (Canada), they’re passionate about building welcoming outdoor spaces where people can grow confidence, connection, and a sense of belonging. When they’re not working, you’ll likely find Thunder on the water, hiking the Eastern Shore, or reading.

Fin is an outdoor leader, nature educator, and sea kayaking instructor who brings deep local knowledge and hands-on experience to every learning environment. With more than 15 years of outdoor leadership experience in Nova Scotia and beyond, he specializes in helping people connect with the natural world through close observation, curiosity, and time spent outside. He believes that nature is a powerful teacher! After work, you’ll likely find Fin on the water or in the woods, always exploring new corners of Nova Scotia.

Our Story

Together, Fin and Thunder bring more than 30 years of combined experience in outdoor education, community programming, and nature-based learning.

We met during an outdoor training and clicked almost immediately, realizing we shared the same belief: the outdoors is one of the most powerful places to learn.

As Fin often quotes, “Nature is the teacher; a good instructor just opens the door.”

As we spent more time exploring ideas and working together, it became clear we were driven by the same purpose: serving this land and the people who call it home. That shared vision became Ferro & Tide.

The name reflects the landscapes that shape this coast, and it echoes our names, Fin and Thunder (F&T). Fun fact: we’re water and fire signs, which says a lot about the balance of energy we bring to this work.

At its heart, Ferro & Tide creates opportunities for people to step outside, slow down, and build a deeper relationship with the natural world, and with each other.

As Thunder often says, “It is not enough that people feel welcome in the outdoors, belonging is the goal.”

Our goal is simple:
To make nature connection
accessible and achievable
for everyone.

Office Hours

Monday - Thursday 10am-6pm

Ferro & Tide is rooted in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq people. We are grateful to live, learn, and work as guests on these lands and waters, whose care, stories, and teachings long predate us and continue to shape this place today.

We recognize that the Peace and Friendship Treaties remain living agreements, and that we are all Treaty people with shared responsibilities to respect the land, honour relationships, and move forward in good ways.

Because our work is grounded in place, we understand this acknowledgement as more than words. It is a commitment to listening, learning, and building relationships with local communities, knowledge holders, and the lands and waters that continue to teach us
