Our Commitments

Everyone belongs in nature!

At Ferro & Tide Outdoors, our goal is to make nature connection achievable and accessible for all.

These commitments are how our values show up in practice.

We’re always learning, and we don’t get it perfect, but these are the practices we come back to.

We think about access from the very beginning.

That might mean offering sliding scale pricing, choosing locations that are easier to get to, or sharing clear information so people know what to expect before they arrive.

We actively shape spaces where people can belong.

We don’t assume belonging happens on its own. We design for it through clear communication, shared expectations, and ongoing attention to how people are feeling, not just what we’re doing.

We design programs so people can be themselves outside.

We keep our spaces welcoming and low-pressure, and create multiple ways for people to participate in ways that feel right for them.

We pay attention to how people experience challenge.

We build in choice, flexibility, and support so people can stretch and grow without being pushed past their limits.

We stay open to learning and accountability.

We’re continually learning about trauma-informed, anti-racist, and decolonial practice, and we adjust our approach when something isn’t working.

We make space for different ways of knowing and being outdoors.

There isn’t one “right” way to learn, lead, or connect with nature, and we try to reflect that in how we design and facilitate.

We let the place guide the experience.

Our programs are shaped by the land and water around us, not a fixed script. We slow down, notice what’s there, and build from that.

We learn by doing, reflecting, and trying again.

We create opportunities for people to practice, make meaning of their experience, and build confidence in their own way.

We build with people, not just for them.

We partner with schools, organizations, and community partners to create programs that actually fit, rather than dropping something in from the outside.

We focus on what people can carry forward.

Whether it’s a skill, a feeling, or a new way of seeing, we want people to leave with something they can bring back into their own lives and communities.

Office Hours

Monday - Thursday 10am-6pm

Ferro & Tide is rooted in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq people. We are grateful to live, learn, and work as guests on these lands and waters, whose care, stories, and teachings long predate us and continue to shape this place today.

We recognize that the Peace and Friendship Treaties remain living agreements, and that we are all Treaty people with shared responsibilities to respect the land, honour relationships, and move forward in good ways.

Because our work is grounded in place, we understand this acknowledgement as more than words. It is a commitment to listening, learning, and building relationships with local communities, knowledge holders, and the lands and waters that continue to teach us
